In September 2007, Jean-Michel Portier was appointed to lead TNS's combined Media Syndicated Services business. Formerly Global Head of TNS media intelligence, which he founded in 2000, Jean-Michel Portier has been with the TNS Group since 1987, and has been instrumental in developing TNS Media Intelligence as a worldwide leader in ad and news monitoring and analysis.

Under his stewardship, TNS Media Intelligence expanded into 24 countries, including the United States, Central Europe and China. Most recently, Jean-Michel Portier has strengthened TNS Media intelligence by entering the domain of digital connections with the acquisition of Cymfony, the US top market influence analytics company.

Jean-Michel Portier has also been CEO of TNS Secodip and Scientific Director at TNS Sofres. As such, he organised the first opinion poll in real time on French television. He was also President of Europanel in the mid-90s.

Prior to joining TNS, Jean-Michel Portier started his career as an Administrator at INSEE, the French National Institute for Statistics and Economics. He is a graduate of the renowned French Polytechnique Engineering School and ENSAE.
